Sock Boots at Sunset

sock-boots-style-rarebitSo after not buying clothes for a full three months, I thought it was about time I treated myself to a little wardrobe update. I was on the look out for a trend piece that would refresh my outfits for the winter season and sock boots just felt like a perfect choice. They are 100% the blogger item du jour right now and they also happen to be pretty flattering too. I saw that they make it look like you have never ending legs if you wear them with black trousers and that pretty much made my decision for me.

Sometimes a pick me up is all you need to revive old pieces and feel excited about your wardrobe again. Everything else I’m wearing with these I’ve had for ages but the boots instantly make my outfit look relevant and on trend. It’s funny but as I’m getting older I’m starting to be more picky about the things I invest in. I really want to start saving for some special pieces and cut back on the amount I spend getting quick fixes. This is mainly where my three month ban from shopping came from! It’s been a great way for me to really get to know my wardrobe and think about the clothes I most love to wear.

I honestly believe that style has nothing to do with how much money you have to spend on clothes though or being able to get the latest thing. It’s all about creativity and individuality and no amount of money can buy that!

The £25.99 Zara Mom Jeans

zara-mom-jeansRecently I’ve really been into the idea of moving on from skinny jeans into some styles that are a bit more fashion forward and a lot more flattering. With this in mind two weeks ago I asked on my Instagram stories for some advice on finding a good pair of mom jeans.  There was a pretty unanimous responce about a pair from Zara so I felt like I at least had to go and try them on.

zara-mom-jeansAt first I wasn’t sure if they were high waisted enough for me but I think it was just getting used to jeans that are cut very differently and without any stretch. I have 100% come around to them though, I love how they give me a nice shape and look a little more grungy than skinnies. I’m not going to lie they are nowhere near as comfy as my 80% stretch skinnies but it’s just something to bear in mind.

They’re the best pair I’ve found on the high street though, especially at this price point and in so many different washes. If you’re looking to try out a pair I would definitely recommend and they have honestly become a staple of mine already. This cut is perfect if you have a bigger bum and legs like me as it kind of skims over everything and creates that hourglass look for you. If you want some more inspo keep an eye on my Instagram because I’m probably going to have these on a lot in the next few months. Especially with some big fluffy jumpers!

Get your Tassel Earrings On / Rhian Kate Contemporary Jewellery

style rarebit fashion blogIt’s so important to me to support small businesses. The crafters, artists and creatives that are going out on their own and building a business from nothing are the people who inspire me the most. I love being able to share them with you on here too, people like Xandra Jane, Swag and Tassel and today Rhian Kate Contemporary Jewellery. I’ve been following @RhianKateMakes on Instagram for ages now and her minimal, modern jewellery is as beautiful as it is wearable. She has a really strong design style and a great understanding of how women like to look and feel while wearing jewellery.

“For me when I make jewellery and people decide to wear what I have made it’s exciting, it’s a connection you make with someone that you are not always aware of but what I have made becomes a choice in who they are or what they want to express.”

rhian kate contemporary jewellerystyle rarebit fashion blogTassel earrings are a statement being made by lots of Instagrammers right now and I really love these red ones. They’re the perfect size, still dramatic but also dainty, feminine and sit at a good length. These and all of Rhian’s other pieces are handmade in Wales using pewter (lead free), acrylic and aluminium. The pretty, textured disc at the top of these earrings is a trademark of hers and runs throughout her collection in various different shapes and styles. It’s a really lovely effect that I haven’t seen anywhere else and makes her pieces a unique investment.

I’ll make sure to put all her links at the bottom of this post so you can see some examples of her work and show her some love. Also If you like these tassel earrings make sure to look at her Instagram for all the colour options too.

Bath, an Instagrammers wet dream.

I took handsome to Bath this weekend and I thought it might be nice to share some snaps on here. It’s one of my favourite places to go and funnily enough when I first started StyleRarebit I was there weekly for events. It’s just so beautiful, the architecture is so quirky and it has an old fashioned charm that you can’t quite trump anywhere else. To me it’s very quintessentially English in the nicest way, which coming from a Welsh person is a big deal. Also, the Lace in Fashion exhibition is on at the Museum which was the main reason for this trip. It was very much worth it, they have some incredible pieces, including a look from Raf Simmons’ first collection for Dior.

jeans and a nice top

stylerarebit.comI’ve had to admit something to myself recently that I never, EVER, thought I would have to. However it’s very sad and so true that I’m a little bit of a ‘jeans and a nice top’ girl. I feel like this is the fashionably comfortable equivalent of wearing your pyjamas to Tesco. It’s just so good, the jeans are stretchy, it’s a well put together outfit but it’s so low maintenance. As if I had to iron a single thing, that’s the problem with pretty dresses. You don’t have to shave, tan, hold in the wind jeans and a nice top, it’s good as it is. I may be the worst Cardiff fashion blogger but at least I’m honest about it.

Flower Shopping

stylerarebit.comstylerarebit.com My mum is a photographer (incase you didn’t know already, she takes all my outfit pictures) and has been working with the Flower Lodge for a while now. Just last week she brought home a huge bunch of Ranunculus (google them THEY ARE GORGEOUS) and it’s what gave me the idea to take some pictures there today. It’s the most beautiful shop in Rhiwbina and if your visiting I recommend having a look at their new gift range of candles and diffusers which are so lovely. A quick scroll through these pictures should inspire you enough to take a trip, so many amazing colours!

My look today is pretty much my go to outfit as of late. These gingham trousers, in terms of cost per wear, are probably about 1p. Too comfy to take off. I know that this is the season where I should be breaking out the colours but I like wearing monochrome and great basics and it’s nice to be comfy. Sometimes you just want to throw on what makes you feel good.

The £22 Dungaree Dress I Can’t Stop Wearing

I’ve been looking for a simple dungaree dress for years and I can’t believe I finally found one on a food shop. It’s actually the second piece of clothing I’ve bought from Sainsbury’s recently, the first being an embroidered jacket I saw in the ST Style Magazine. For £22 I’ve worn this quite a lot, it’s easy to pair with things, it’s comfy and it’s a classic. I think there is a lot to be said for supermarket clothing, it might not be the coolest or the best quality but you can definitely pick up some useful basics.

Here’s to 25

Here I am, finally recovered from my neck fiasco and feeling super pumped to blog. I have so much to show you, it really is amazing how much internet shopping you can get done on your sick bed. I’ve also just turned 25 and so I’ve got lots of beautiful presents and party stories to share too.

Equally it has rained so much in Cardiff this week it hasn’t been the weather for celebrating. I know it rains all the time here but it really, really rained… a lot. Therefore my outfits this week have been pretty casual and layered up and that’s kind of my everyday vibe at the moment. I really like wearing a hoodie underneath a smart jacket and heels, I like that it gives things a street wear feel and takes it away from looking too dressy. A hood also keeps my hair dry and my eyeliner smudge free, winner.

MIA Rarebit

After the most positive start to 2017 and me making a dedicated effort to grow this blog and my content, I am so disappointed that I haven’t been able to get anything done this week. If your wondering whats going on, I currently have the neck of Hulk Hogan and in a pain I literally can’t explain nor kill with Nurofen. Why? Still no bloody idea. It could be my salivary gland (sexy) or  my lymph node (scary) but at this stage there’s still no answer. On a positive note I took some pictures over a week ago now, along with my spotty tight ones, that I still have to post. These were originally supposed to be titled everyday me and I was going to talk about my everyday uniform and wardrobe basics. For now lets just hope I get back to everyday me very soon.
